Change through education
The school is located in the Chaiyaphum Province in the district of Subyai. It is one of the poorest provinces in Thailand with the average family of 4 earning just 11,000 baht a month.
Many of the students are cared for by someone other than their parents and only 41% of the students from ages 15-17 will typically remain at school, therefore, leaving them with no opportunities for professional development. We hope to change this.
The school is situated on 105 Rai of land which will also incorporate future developments including:
The Hospitality Training School
The Business Park
The Design Concept
Conceptually, the design of the school consists of simple, functional, “box-like” buildings of cement stabilized earth blocks, sheltered by over-sailing steel hyper roof structures. The intention is to provide a safe and sustainable learning environment which borrows from and reinterprets traditional Thai responses to climate and site.
The incorporation of earth blocks will engender a sense of buildings which belong to the site. The geometry of the floating roof areas is conceived to funnel airflow and assist in natural cooling.
The methods of construction are developed to encourage participation from the local community, volunteers, and sponsors in an effort to encourage collaboration and a sense of community.
